Green Growth Bangladesh (GGB) champions the transition to a circular economy by promoting waste reduction, recycling, repair and sustainable production. Dhaka alone generates more than 6,500 tonnes of solid waste every day, and only a fraction of the country’s plastic is recycled, much of it through the informal labour of waste pickers who work without recognition or protection.
Through innovation and education, GGB supports waste-picker cooperatives, community composting, plastic-free market initiatives and circular business models for young entrepreneurs. We work with municipalities to integrate informal recyclers into formal waste-management systems and with manufacturers to design out waste at the source.
Our goal is a Bangladesh where materials stay in use for as long as possible, waste becomes a resource and the people who make recycling possible earn dignified incomes.
